Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 teaspoon espresso powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and lightly grease a small oven-safe skillet or baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with half of the chocolate chips until smooth, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar and white sugar until glossy and well combined.
  4. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract and whisk until thick and smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, and optional espresso powder.
  6. Fold the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture just until combined, then stir in the remaining chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, and optional walnuts.
  7. Spread the thick dough evenly into the skillet, keeping the center slightly thicker than the edges.
  8. Bake for about 15 minutes, until the edges are set but the center still looks soft and slightly underbaked.
  9. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving so the middle stays warm and gooey.
  10. Serve straight from the skillet while the center is still molten and fudgy.
