Ingredients
- 1 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 5 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for crumble)
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar (for crumble)
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (for crumble)
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Optional Ingredients
- 1 tbsp caramel sauce (for drizzling)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (mix into crumble)
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt until evenly coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and press down gently so it sits evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour in melted butter and stir until clumpy and crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples, covering most of the surface.
- Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 350°F and bake another 30–40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Let the pie cool at least 1 hour before slicing so the filling sets.
